Bernese puppy Angel

Danger in Rope Toys

Be very careful of the toys that you give your puppy or dog to play with. Bernese Angel (AKA Daisy), was just six-months old and tragically died earlier this month after ingesting rope, part of a dog toy. Vets operated on her to remove the rope from multiple organs but sadly, she passed away, devastating her family.

Dogs naturally chew and no toy is indestructible. It’s a good idea to supervise your pet’s play time with their toys – whether the toys are size-appropriate for the pet and their type of play,  or labeled as “indestructible” – even a seemingly harmless one can be hazardous.

Summer Safety for Your Dog

Outdoor surfaces will heat up during the upcoming summer months and can get too hot for your dog to walk on. But it is not only the dark asphalt on streets that get hot; concrete, rock and sand can be blistering hot as well. Be mindful of your dog’s safety and comfort – use the 5 Second Rule:

Before walking your dog, place the back of your hand on the asphalt. If you can’t hold it there for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog to go on a walk.

Pet Tip for the Week: Bowls

Here’s your pet care tip for the week…

“Be mindful of the dishes and bowls your pet uses regularly.”

Does your pet have a metal or plastic dish? What kind of dish is it?

Using a metal water dish outside in winter may be a risk (if you leave in inclement weather), because your pet’s tongue could stick to the frozen metal.

In the summer, metal bowls can get very hot and burn your pet.

Consider plastic and pet-friendly bowls for your furry friend. And remember, give your pet fresh food and filtered water in a clean bowl. They will appreciate this effort and they will enjoy their food and water more.
